SAFETY
It is often very easy to forget when we are shooting that we are holding a very dangerous weapon in our hands that is capable of causing a terrible injury, or even, worse a fatality! Safety is, therefore, of the utmost importance in our sport. Whilst many of the safety issues may be common sense, below are points that must be adhered:
20. NEVER under any circumstance point a loaded bow towards another person or any direction other than the target on which you are shooting.
21. When drawing the bow DO NOT point the bow in the air above the horizontal position. Drawn arrows must be pointed down range towards the targets.
22. On practise days, the long distances are traditionally shot on the left side of the range – along the roadside, intermediate distances on the butts in the middle of the range and short distances on the right side of the range.
23. When shooting on the line with fellow archers take care not to invade their shooting space. Keep your bow in front of you and not at your side where space invasion and can irritate and possible damage to the other archers’ equipment.
24. A maximum of 4 archers per butt is allowed.
25. Make sure you reach a consensus as to who is going to draw the arrows and make sure that there is nobody standing behind you when the arrows are drawn. The nocks are sharp and could cause serious injury.
26. For the new archers, it is a good idea to make sure that you are able to shoot all your arrows in the butt before taking the challenge of shooting longer distances. Shooting a distance that is too difficult could lead to your arrows deflecting off the frame of the butt. In term of safety this could be potentially dangerous, as no one knows the path of a deflected arrow could take. This causes damage to the butts, not to mention the damage to your arrows.
27. Always be aware of what is happening around you. SAFETY FIRST!
GENERAL
28. No member shall be at liberty to organise any event, function, competition or tournament at the range or under the auspices of KPAC, whether it relates to archery or not, without prior authorization by the committee or relevant sub-committee. The clubhouse and the field are available for hire for suitable events from the committee.
29. Members and guests may only access the club workshop with permission from and under supervision by a committee member. Tools and equipment may only be removed from the workshop with permission from the committee member responsible for the workshop.
30. The front gate remote and/or access keys can be obtained from the committee at a nominal fee. Remotes and access keys may, in no way, be duplicated or reproduced and passed on to other persons. Should it be your intention to terminate your membership, the remote must be returned to the KPAC and you will be refunded 50% of the original fee.
31. Neither the committee nor any sub-committee nor any individual member shall be held responsible for any accident, injury, damage or loss whatsoever, or for the negligence of any person resulting in accident, injury, damage or loss, upon or in the vicinity of the archery range. Members, guests and visitors to the range do so entirely at their own risk and are expected to behave in a way that protects their own safety and that of other persons on the range, the club’s facilities and equipment.
